Dr. Husamuddin Ahmadzai, FIMMM, FAusIMM, CEng, CP (E)
Husamuddin Ahmadzai is Special Adviser to the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO) and Senior Adviser to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. He is Fund Manager of the Arctic Council Project Support Instrument (PSI) for mitigation of the pollution of the Arctic and Member of the Executive Committee of the Multilateral Fund (MLF) of the Montreal Protocol under UN Environment. He has served as the Chairman of the MLF and the Stockholm Group working for improvement of the stratospheric ozone layer and mitigation of climate and as a member of the UN Environment’s Technology and Economic Assessment Panel and its technical working groups. Dr. Ahmadzai has also served as a consultant to the Nordic Investment Bank, Sida, the World Bank, UNDP, UNEP, and UNIDO, international private and semi-autonomous enterprises. He is the founding partner of Mensa Milieu, a Swedish consultancy, in the field of environment, energy and resource efficiency.
Dr. Ahmadzai has nearly a forty five year experience in the fields of engineering (technical and financial), environmental protection, resource and energy efficiency, cross media impacts and associated policy related issues and negotiations addressing financing, replenishments and protection of the global stratospheric ozone layer, mitigating climate change, and protection of the Arctic environment. His portfolio covers the extractive, material and waste processing sectors, environmental and social impact assessments, structuring of measures, costing, risk reduction, financing, implementation and follow-up.
Husamuddin Ahmadzai, Tekn dr (Metallurgy); M.Sc. (Metallurgy); and B.Sc. Eng. (Metallurgy and Materials Science)) is an alumnus of the Universities of the Punjab, New South Wales, Gothenburg and the Royal Institute of Technology. He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and a Chartered Professional-Environment (CP-E), Fellow IMMM, Fellow AusIMM and Member of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers’ Minerals Metals and Materials Society (TMS-AIME); the Swedish Metallurgical Society and the Swedish Association of Engineers.
